Sunday Stylez: Complimentary Outfits

Regardless if you want 2 admit it or not, most of us have all been guilty of calling up a friend or significant other and asking “What are you wearing today?” You might have even taken it a little further and said “Let’s both wear our Jordan’s today” Sound familiar lol?!!? Yeah the things we did in Junior High school. There was always that O.D cheesy, lovey dovey couple, who always had on the same damn thing from the hat down 2 the shoes looking like two damn fools…lol I might have been guilty of this too but on the low SHHH. If you’re still doing that…please stop. There is nothing wrong with wanting 2 look good together but there is other ways 2 do it without being so literal and obvious. You can compliment each other and still look like two different individuals. Here’s how:

1. DO Wear colors that compliment each other.

2. DON’T wear the exact same colors from head to toe.

3. DO pick one item from your outfit that you can both play off and highlight specifically. For example the tortoise shell effect on the glasses has a similar pattern to the leopard shoes. Also see how they both choose 2 wear vintage brass/bronze like accessories. It should look effortless and definitely not intentional, just that you both are on the same page fashion wise.

4. DON’T wear the exact same pieces, (t-shirt for example) unless you want 2 look like you are a part of some kind of promotional team…or those kids in high school LOL

Taking you back to the school yard

NY city’s own Jaes decided he wanted to take it back to the school yard and bring some friends of his along. Teaming up with Askew, Enue, and Miami/Brooklyn based Tatiana Suarez, they painted this dope wall in Manhattan. I like this piece especially because the colors are so vibrant, plus it can inspire a kid to go out there and find their own talent in graffiti. Check out the video of them creating the piece from scratch. School Yard Art

Sunday Stylez: Dip-Dyed Hair

One of the features that will be on Sunday Stylez is TrendBoards, where new & up-coming trends, set by trendsetters from all over the world are showcased. Today we have a Beauty Trend which is the Dip-Dyed Hair effect. It can also be called the Ombre Effect.

Jewelry and shoes are obvious accessories, but your hair is one of your biggest accessories. If your hair is on point you can have on the simplest outfit and still look great! Dying your hair is a great way to switch up your look when you are looking for a little change. The Up-keep is a little time consuming when you dye your hair because you always have to get touch ups on your roots before they start to show, but with this trend you don’t even have to worry about that! You can dye your hair and let the color grow out as it normally would! Try different colors/Cuts for different looks. You can also double dip (pause) to have more than one color for more of an ombre effect. Check the pictures below for different variations of the trend.

Of  course you can go to a professional to achieve this affect but you can also try to DIY (Do-it-yourself) at home. There are Brands such as Manic Panic, Special Effects, Adore & Many more for the fun colors. For basic Natural hair colors you can try brands such as Clairol, L’Oreal, Paul Mitchell, etc these can be bought at your Local Beauty Supply Store or even Drug Store’s such as Duane Reade/Rite Aid. Here are some links 2 purchase them.

REWIND:

I remember one of the first time’s I saw this look. It was on the beautiful R&B singer Aaliyah (R.I.P). She rarely changed her hair…but this dip-dyed effect was a lovely and subtle change for her. You can keep it simple with natural hair colors such as black & brown like this or you can update it with more bold unconventional hair colors like most of the looks above.
